Sharesight users' top 20 trades in US stocks for 2022

by Stephanie Stefanovic, Content Manager, Sharesight | Dec 21st 2022

Each year, Sharesight looks back at the top 20 buy and sell trades made by Sharesight users throughout the year. Welcome to the 2022 edition of our annual US trading snapshot, where we explore the top trades users have made in stocks on the Nasdaq, NYSE and AMEX this year, plus the market-moving news behind some of these stocks.

Top20 US trades 2022

In this annual snapshot, trades were heavily concentrated on the Nasdaq, with FAANG stocks all making the top 20 trades.

The top trades were led by Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), which saw its share price plummet throughout 2022, with the stock losing US$600 billion in market capitalisation. Trades were followed by Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), which saw its share price fluctuate throughout 2022, ultimately losing over 27% in value since the beginning of the year (as at the time of publishing).

Overall, US tech stocks remained popular with Sharesight users in 2022, with many investors choosing to take advantage of historically low prices caused by this year’s tech stock collapse. This year’s snapshot also marks a departure from the ‘meme stock’ trend of 2021, as seen in last year’s annual snapshot.

Let’s look at the news behind some of the key stocks in this year’s snapshot:

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA)

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL)

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)

Meta (NASDAQ: FB)

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN)

Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL)

Alibaba (NYSE: BABA)

Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX)
